Serge Gnabry is becoming the latest hot topic in European football after Bayern Munich negotiations are said to have failed.

With the majority of news regarding Manchester United and transfers focusing on who is set to leave Old Trafford, new reports suggest that the Red Devils may have an opportunity to secure one of Bayern Munich’s top players.

Striker turned pundit Kevin Campbell, speaking to Football Insider, said that the 26-year-old German international Serge Gnabry will have caught the attention of Ralf Rangnick, who is already likely to have one eye on Gnabry from his time in Germany.

Sky Germany has been reporting that Gnabry has entered the final 18 months of his contract at the Allianz Arena and, while the Bundesliga club is desperate to re-sign the striker, who has scored 59 goals in 154 appearances, Bayern have not met Gnabry’s desired salary demands.

Gnabry would be able to sign a pre-contract arrangement with a foreign club to leave for nothing next January which gives Bayern only a few months to continue negotiations with the 26-year-old.

They may be forced to cash in this summer if the striker continues to reject their proposals rather than losing out on what would be a healthy sum of money.

Here is all the latest on one of Europe’s hottest targets.

Who is Serge Gnabry?

Gnabry first made his professional debut as a footballer in the Premier League for Arsenal in 2012.

In the 2011-12 season, Gnabry played for the Under 18s for the majority of the season but was soon promoted to the reserves after incredible displays of prowess.

Following a serious knee injury in 2014, Gnabry was sent on loan to West Bromwich Albion in order to gain first-team experience before signing with the Bundesliga club Werder Bremen in 2016.

In his only season at the club, Gnabry made 27 league appearances scoring 11 goals aiding Werder Bremen to finish eighth in the Bundesliga.

In 2017, Gnabry moved on loan to Hoffenheim from Bayern in order to gain more experience before rejoining Bayern in 2018.

Since playing for Bayern Munich, the team has won three Bundesliga titles, two DFB-Pokals and a Champions League title.

His former manager, Arsene Wenger has said of Gnabry: “He’s creative, he can score goals, right-footed, left-footed, good power, good penetration, very, very clever with the timing of his runs.”

How likely are Manchester United to seal the deal?

His 59 goals and 44 assists in 154 appearances for Bayern Munich have not gone unnoticed by clubs around Europe and as negotiations with the German side continue to fold, other high profile sides are all hoping to swoop in.

United’s rivals Liverpool are one such club, with La Liga’s Real Madrid and Barcelona all hoping to pounce too given the opportunity.

With Rangnick’s insider knowledge of German football and its players, it is likely that he will be crucial to helping sign Gnabry if Bayern’s Julian Nagelsmann is unable to hold on.

When asked about a potential swoop by Manchester United for Gnabry, Kevin Campbell said: “Now he’s a top, top player.

“He’s won everything he possibly can at Bayern Munich. He has proven himself at the top level.

“Let’s be honest, he is a world-class player who would be an asset to any team in the world. That’s why it doesn’t surprise me that United are looking at him.

“I’m sure Ralf Rangnick knows a lot about him from his time in Germany.

“Gnabry is a productive player and a very productive player at that. He gets both goals and assists. That could be a move that works for United in the summer because he is a very dangerous player.”
