Manchester United boss Marc Skinner is set to make his first signing of the January transfer with the capture of full back Jayde Riviere, as reported in The Athletic.

The Canadian defender will complete a free transfer move to the club with the deal set to be announced soon after the Red Devils fought off competition from a number of clubs for the 21-year-olds signature.

Skinner confirmed last week that he hoped he would soon “have something for the fans to cheer about” via the club’s official website and it appears that the confirmed signing of Riviere is indeed that news - with more expected very soon, ManchesterWorld understands.

A gold medal winner at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo with Canada, she has been capped 36 times after making her debut aged just 16. She is best deployed as an attacking full back - a position United have been desperate to fill in this window.

Available on a free transfer, she most recently performed in the United Soccer League for AFC Ann Arbor and spent three years with Michigan Wolverines playing in the USA’s college leagues where she formed a reputation as one of the most exciting talents.

The deal will represent a real coup for Skinner and United’s Head of Women’s Football Polly Bancroft with a number of high profile sides - including one Women’s Super League side - believed to have enquired for the defender.
