Manchester United have emerged as favourites to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez this summer.

The 22-year-old has been in electric form this season, hitting 33 goals in 38 matches across all competitions, and is widely considered to be one of the most promising attacking talents in the European game.

Unsurprisingly, his exploits in front of goal have attracted attention from a number of top sides, including several Premier League clubs.

West Ham, for instance, had a last ditch swoop for the Uruguayan international rejected during the January transfer window, as per Sky Sports.

As Nunez’s star continues to rise, so does the level of speculation surrounding his future, and according to bookmakers, United could be in a strong position to sign him at the end of the season.

At the time of writing, the Red Devils are currently favourites to land the forward at odds of 2/1, according to SkyBet.

That price puts them ahead of nearest rivals Liverpool at 3/1, as well as La Liga giants Real Madrid (7/1) and Barcelona (9/1).

Arsenal are also priced at 9/1, while newly-moneyed Newcastle United, who have been repeatedly linked with Nunez in recent days, come in at 10/1.

Rounding out the barrage of English suitors, Tottenham have odds of 12/1, while Atletico Madrid are priced at 14/1.

Any deal for Nunez is likely to be an expensive one, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano suggesting that Benfica will allow the player to leave for a fee of around £67 million.

The Italian journalist also name-checked United as one of the sides who have held internal discussions over a potential deal for the South American, while The Athletic recently reported that the Red Devils were battling Chelsea, PSG, and Arsenal for his services.
