Erik ten Hag has ruled three players out of Manchester United’s Carabao Cup clash with Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils head to the City Ground for the first time since 1999 on Wednesday night for a semi-final first leg, with the reverse fixture to be staged at Old Trafford next week. But speaking ahead of the trip to the East Midlands, Ten Hag said those who weren’t fit to face Arsenal on Sunday will also be unavailable in midweek.

“The players who were not available for the Arsenal game - [Diogo] Dalot, [Anthony]Martial and [Jadon] Sancho are also not available tomorrow,” said the Dutchman on Tuesday.

Sancho has not played for United in over three months and has followed a personalised fitness regime for the majority of that period. However, the winger did return to team training recently and is believed to be closing in on a return to the senior set-up.

As for Dalot, he picked up a knock in the quarter-final win over Charlton Athletic, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka deputising at right-back in his absence over the last three games. The 25-year-old performed well in the matches against Manchester City and Crystal Palace but struggled at the weekend as United lost to Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Martial has been impacted by injuries throughout the majority of the season, and he’s currently out with a fourth separate problem this term. He was replace in the derby win over City at half-time and has missed the last two games as a result
