Marcus Rashford is a doubt for Manchester United’s Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday due to illness.

The forward, who dropped to the bench for Wednesday’s game against Chelsea, was missing from training on Friday and is therefore a doubt for the clash with the Cherries.

Even if fit, it’s unlikely Rashford will start given the impressive display from United’s attacking trio of Antony, Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho on Wednesday night, in the 2-1 win over Chelsea. The England international was also criticised for his performance in 1-0 loss to Newcastle United and has managed just two goals all season.

"Rashford is an incredibly good player," Ten Hag said on Friday, when asked about the attacker's form. "You can't do it with 11 players. Also, he can't play every game. He is not, in this moment, in the form he was last year but I am sure he will get there."

Elsewhere, Victor Lindelof is set to miss the game due to an injury he suffered in midweek. The defender was replaced at half-time with a knock and the club confirmed via their website that he will miss the Bournemouth encounter, although Raphael Varane is available for selection after missing the Chelsea game with a minor injury.

There was also good news on Friday though, with Amad returning to full training for the first time this season. The 21-year-old hasn’t played this term due to a knee injury he suffered in July’s friendly against Arsenal. It’s not clear if the forward will be available for selection against Bournemouth.

Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount are also doubts for the game, with both expected to miss out. Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia and Casemiro definitely won’t be back due to long-term injuries, while Jadon Sancho remains out due to his long-running feud with Ten Hag.

United head into the game in sixth place and are, remarkably, just three points off the Champions League places despite the team’s underwhelming displays this season.

"I think they also have very good form, Bournemouth," Ten Hag said in his pre-match press conferences. "We have seen them. They are a very good side, it is very well constructed, that team, [they have] capable players.

"You have to play your best and as I said for the previous question, everyone is killing everyone, so you have to be 100 per cent ready as a team for that game, so that is our job to do, to get there."
