Manchester United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday evening with a 2-1 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

The Red Devils fell behind to an early strike from Alex Iwobi, but drew level shortly after thanks to an equaliser from summer signing Antony. Erik ten Hag’s men then wrapped up all three points courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s decisive goal - his 700th at club level.

United now sit fifth in the table, one point behind Chelsea in fourth, and nine adrift of league leaders Arsenal. Next up for Ten Hag’s side is a tricky clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, but before then, there is still plenty of transfer speculation to work

Newcastle an ‘option’ for Van de Beek

Newcastle United could prove to be “one option” for United outcast Donny van de Beek should he leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window, according to reporter Dean Jones.

The Dutchman has struggled for significant opportunities under new manager Erik ten Hag, and has registered just 19 minutes in the Premier League so far this season - although he has been carrying a knock since early September that has limited his availability. Last term also proved to be difficult for the 25-year-old, with United eventually taking the decision to loan him out to Everton in January, where he scored one goal in seven outings.

Talk of another potential exit has mounted in recent weeks, with 90min reporting that Van de Beek has been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford, and Jones is of the opinion that a move to Tyneside could be viable for the player.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer guru said: “Newcastle is one option. They want a central midfielder, still, and I think he might fit the bill.”

United given Gakpo boost

United may have been handed a boost in their hopes of signing PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, according to an update from The Athletic.

Over the weekend, The Mirror reported that Leeds United were closing in on a deal for the Dutchman, with suggestions that personal terms had been agreed and discussions ongoing over the £30 million valuation attached to the player. In an update on Monday, however, David Ornstein refuted those claims, reporting instead that the Whites’ swoop for Gakpo could be “in doubt”.

It is understood that the player is not keen on the prospect of a move to Elland Road, and would instead prefer to consider other options. As things stand, the Red Devils continue to be linked, alongside Premier League leaders Arsenal and European champions Real Madrid.

An excerpt from Ornstein’s piece states: “There was a sense around the talks that Gakpo might warm to the idea having previously shown reluctance, but the forward’s superb form at the club and international level is believed to have shifted his expectations, and Leeds have been made aware that currently, he is not in favour of the switch.”
