Yoro race

United are being linked with a move for young Lille defender Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old is already a regular starter at senior level, and he is said to be attracting interest from around Europe this summer. According to MARCA, United have already made an offer to Lille, but it is said to have come up way short of the Ligue 1 club’s £51million asking price.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are also said to be interested in a deal for the defender this summer, though the reported fee may see that race whittled down when it comes down to actual offers.

Speaking recently about Yoro’s fast rise into senior football, already earning the tag of being one of the most highly rated young centre-backs on the continent, Lille boss Paulo Fonseca has said: “Maybe it is not easy for a young player, who reaches this moment very quickly. I spoke with the player, I think the main thing is for him to stay focused on what he has to do this season. He must remain balanced and humble, that is the main thing. It is, I think. He's playing well again. In the end we'll see. If he wants to have the opportunity to play at another level, he must continue like this, do things well. ”

Fernandes importance

Portugal boss Roberto Martinez has highlighted the importance of United star Bruno Fernandes in his squad ahead of Euro 2024. He told Vibe with Five: “He’s had I think close to 9 assists in the 10 [qualifying] games. He has that capacity of doing what the game needs, the attribute of appreciating what the game needs. We had a game in Slovakia that was really tough, they surprised us with how high they were pressing us and they stopped us.

“And Bruno came up with certain positions and scored the winning goal. That’s what his quality allows him to do. He’s got this capacity to almost change slightly his positions and how he should affect the attacking play. [Yes] without the coach.”

United transfer criticism

Premier League pundit Richard Keys has blasted United for missing out on departing Fulham man Tosin Adarabioyo to Chelsea. He wrote on X: “If Utd can’t persuade the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo to join them that tells me they are no longer a ‘go to’ destination for top players.”

The centre-back was an attractive prospect this summer given he was available for free, and United need more depth at centre-back given the departures of Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane.
