Manchester United have identified Victor Osimhen as their first-choice transfer target for this summer, given Tottenham Hotspur’s stance on Harry Kane.
Bringing in a new centre-forward is Erik ten Hag’s chief priority ahead of the 2023/24 season, due to the ongoing issues surrounding Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst. The latter has netted just twice in 18 games for United since joining on loan in January, while Martial has missed 32 matches with four different injuries this campaign and Ten Hag is willing to let the Frenchman leave Old Trafford this summer.
With Marcus Rashford the only other option up front, adding at least one striker is seen as key to the club’s chances of continuing the team’s development next season. Osimhen and Kane are viewed as the ideal candidates to join this summer, but ManchesterWorld have been told Spurs are reluctant to allow the England captain to move to a fellow Premier League side.
Tottenham would even be willing to let the striker move abroad for a cheaper price, although the club have not set an exact figure on how it would cost to prise Kane from North London, even as he enters the final year of his Tottenham contract.
It’s a similar stance that Spurs had with Chelsea’s interest in Luca Modric in 2011, and United’s pursuit of Gareth Bale in 2013, with both players ultimately moving to Real Madrid for a lower price.
It’s why Osimhen is emerging as the more likely signing this summer, although he is expected to cost a figure in excess of £100m with the Nigerian netting 25 times in 29 appearances for Napoli so far this season.
Cheaper options of Lautaro Martinez and Dusan Vlahovic are also being considered by United, and Ten Hag is aiming to move early for his summer transfer targets.
