Manchester United have identified signing a new centre-forward as their primary transfer target ahead of the summer window.

And there are two names in the frame: Harry Kane or Victor Osimhen. Both have enjoyed impressive goalscoring seasons, with the latter seen as a more long-term signing at 24 and on the back of a campaign where he’s so far scored 21 goals.

Yet Kane’s track record in the Premier League and the fact he has just a year left on his contract at Tottenham Hotspur mean some view him as the ideal signing. We’ve rounded up the latest reports on both players and what it could mean for the future of Anthony Martial.

What’s been reported?

Kane is United’s no.1 transfer target for this summer, according to the Mirror. They claim Erik ten Hag views the Spurs forward as ‘the final’ piece of the jigsaw’ and believes he can turn the Red Devils into genuine title contenders.

United are also willing to part with a fee of over £100m to secure Kane’s services, a price that would make the 29-year-old the most expensive British player of all time.

Meanwhile, the Manchester Evening News adds that United are the only Premier League club that Kane could realistically join, although Bayern Munich are also interested in signing the England captain. But a move away from Spurs is not certain, with Tottenham ‘not even contemplating a sale’, as per The Athletic. The outlet also believe initial talks over a new contract have already begun.

Kane is not the only forward being linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the Telegraph previously reporting that United will either move for the Spurs attacker or Osimhen. The Times also states that Kane and Osimhen are the club’s ‘top two transfer targets’.

The latter recently told The Athletic that it is his ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League, but a report in L’Equipe over the weekend claimed the striker is also of interest to Paris Saint-Germain. The French champions are said to have already held a meeting with the player’s representatives, although it could cost around €150m (£133m) to lure him away from Napoli.

That price tag may put United off, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato. United reportedly value the player at around €100m (£88m) and Napoli are not willing to lower their valuation.

The speculation surrounding a new striker comes as Anthony Martial continues to struggle with a hip injury. The Frenchman is nearing a return to the first team and is back in contact training, but his repeated injury issues this campaign have highlighted that Ten Hag cannot rely on his services.

As a result, the United boss is willing to allow Martial to leave this summer, claim the Manchester Evening News.
