Man Utd star pictured in training despite doubt ahead of Tottenham - but 3 others not spotted

Christian Eriksen, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire were missing from the latest Manchester United training session.

Manchester United’s players returned to training on Monday ahead of their Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils drew 0-0 with Newcastle United on Sunday and, typically, those who start a game are given the following day off training. However, the players who were selected in the starting XI were seen going through a light session at Carrington on Monday, in the latest video and gallery released by the club.

Another group, containing those who didn’t start against Newcastle, were filmed completing a keep-ball drill during the training video. Marcus Rashford was involved in that session, which will be a boost for supporters after the forward was deemed not well enough to be selected from the off on Sunday.

Instead, Rashford was forced to settle for a spot on the bench, but did have two decent chances when he came on in the latter stages of the game, in place of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rashford wasn’t the only player suffering from illness over the weekend. So too, was Christian Eriksen. “He is ill and we have some illness in the squad,” Ten Hag said ahead of the Newcastle game, the first Premier League clash Eriksen has missed since his summer move to Old Trafford.

But that number could potentially increase on Wednesday with United’s No.14 not spotted in the latest training video or gallery, putting his selection into real doubt for the visit of Antonio Conte’s side.

Another who wasn’t seen was Anthony Martial, with the forward missing the last two due to a back injury. Ten Hag said last week he had hoped to have Martial back in time for the Newcastle fixture, although the Frenchman ultimately missed out on a place in the squad. “Anthony Martial can be [available] but we have to wait [to see] how he develops in the coming hours,” explained the United boss.

He went on to say Harry Maguire could soon be in line for a return, having not featured since the recent international break. “Harry Maguire will not make this, but doesn’t take long,” the Dutchman explained in a press conference. “Maybe next week he will be back in the team training, or over the next week.”

But, like Eriksen and Martial, Maguire wasn’t spotted in the latest training footage, putting his participation in Wednesday’s game into real doubt. It is, of course, possible that the trio trained separately and away from the cameras, but in such a scenario, their absence from team training would suggest they lack the fitness to start against Spurs.
