Man Utd star Marcus Rashford on Paris Saint-Germain's 'shortlist' as £170m Kylian Mbappe plan hatched

The Manchester United forward has been on PSG's radar for a number of years.

Marcus Rashford is on a three-man shortlist of summer transfer targets at Paris Saint-Germain as the French side plan for life after Kylian Mbappe, according to reports.

Mbappe looks set to leave PSG as a free agent when his contract expires in the summer after informing the Ligue 1 outfit he will not sign a new deal. The 25-year-old is expected to join Real Madrid and pocket a multi-million pound signing bonus, with the Spanish side not having to pay any transfer fee.

Despite losing such an outstanding talent, the feeling in Paris seems to be one of indifference with PSG hoping to use Mbappe's exit as the catalyst for a move away from their 'Galactico' era. They will save around £170m-per-year after getting his salary off the books and The i reports that they will invest the money into his replacement.

PSG are known to be long-time admirers of Rashford and met with his brother and agent last summer, before the forward penned a new five-year contract at United in July. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has already admitted his love for the Reds academy graduate, suggesting in 2022 that another approach was not unlikely.

Also on PSG's shortest of potential options is Napoli's Victor Osimhen and Gavi of Barcelona. Osimhen is said to be their main target and looks set to leave a faltering Napoli side in the summer after having a £100m-plus release clause in his contract. The Nigerian is a classic No.9 and his arrival would still leave open a spot on the left-wing.

Gavi is another who has been on PSG's radar for some time and their current head coach, Luis Enrique, gave the 19-year-old his senior debut at Barcelona. Xavi has already confirmed he will leave Camp Nou in the summer and the Catalan side could be forced to cash in on some of their high earners, following La Liga's decision to reduce their salary cap by around £60m earlier this week.

Neither Rashford nor United have given any inclination that they would be open to doing a deal with PSG. Manager Erik ten Hag has spoken openly about his plans to have the forward stay with him for the foreseeable future.
