Manchester United star Scott McTominay escaped the transfer drama surrounding his future at Old Trafford with a round of golf alongside an Aston Villa pal and a Mission Impossible actor this morning.

The midfielder, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, Brighton or West Ham, teed off as part of the Scottish Open Pro-Am round on Wednesday.

The Pro-Am fixtures allow amateurs to compete alongside professionals. These are typically single-day events where teams comprise one pro golfer paired with four amateurs.

The Scotsman journalist Martin Dempster was on the course on Wednesday and saw McTominay playing a round alongside Aston Villa man John McGinn and actor Dougray Scott. The trio of Scotsmen were joined by Billy Horschel to begin with and then Bob MacIntyre later on.

McGinn is a familiar face for Manchester United fans given the star’s important role at Unai Emery’s side and Scott is best known for his roles in Mission: Impossible 2, Enigma and My Week with Marilyn.

McTominay and McGinn are Scotland teammates and also share a love for Scottish side Hibernian. The Man Utd man supports the side while the Villain played for the club between 2015 and 2018.

It’s been a summer fuelled by transfer rumours for the Red Devils man, who only started just 10 Premier League games under Erik ten Hag last season in a campaign riddled with injury.

The Dutch boss is overseeing a transitionary period at Manchester United and the arrivals of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen last summer have been added to by former Chelsea man Mason Mount this window, making competition hotter than ever before.

Newcastle United had been linked with a move for McTominay, but may have filled that need with the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan - leaving Brighton and West Ham as potential front-runners.
