Manchester United are set to soon make a decision over some of their fringe players, according to reports.

The Red Devils have made two additions so far in the January transfer window, with Wout Weghorst’s arrival on loan from Burnley being announced on Friday night, while Jack Butland joined last week from Crystal Palace, also on loan.

But amid competition for places, some fringe players may be allowed to leave the club on loan in order to ensure they are still developing with regular first-team football. Two of those players are Anthony Elanga, who impressed last season, and Facundo Pellistri, who has his United debut in the midweek Carabao Cup win over Charlton Athletic.

Elanga stepped up to the plate last season amid Edinson Cavani’s injury struggles, finding the net on three occasions, but he is unlikely to see regular football for the rest of this season given Marcus Rashford’s form. Meanwhile, Anthony Martial has also returned to the fore, and others like Jadon Sancho are still ahead of the young Swede.

Elsewhere, 21-year-old Pellistri could do with regular football elsewhere to develop. And that’s something Ten Hag will assess over the coming days, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

He told CaughtOffside: “Manchester United will make a decision on loan moves for Anthony Elanga and Facundo Pellistri in the next few days. Everton are among the clubs interested in the former, but also clubs from other countries are exploring the situation.”

These potential outgoings will be ones to keep an eye on as United weigh up possible loan incomings.
