Manchester United are reportedly working on getting a deal to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea over the line. The England international has emerged on the Red Devils’ radar ahead of the next Premier League season.

As detailed in a report by The Telegraph, Erik ten Hag’s side are ‘progressing’ in their pursuit to land the 24-year-old. The transfer fee is said to be in the region of £50million.

United could see Mount as someone to inject more quality and competition into their midfield department. His contract at Chelsea is due to expire next year so by cashing in on him now the Blues are eradicating the risk of losing him for nothing in 12 months.

He was spotted at the F1 race in Barcelona over the weekend and was asked about speculation linking him with a switch to Old Trafford following the end of the campaign. The Portsmouth-born man was tipped-lipped and said: “I’m here to just enjoy this race today, amazing day, can’t wait to watch it.”

Mount has been on the books at Chelsea since 2005 and has since risen up through the academy ranks of the London club. He was a regular for the Blues at various youth levels before he was loaned out to Vitesse and Derby County to gain experience as a youngster.

The England international has since made 195 appearances in all competitions for the Blues and has scored 33 goals, three of which have come in the last campaign. However, it appears he is now heading out the exit door soon for a new chapter in his career.

United recognise the need to bolster their ranks as they prepare for Ten Hag’s second year at the helm. They were beaten in the FA Cup final by Manchester City last time out.
