Marcus Rashford and David De Gea are just two current Manchester United players whose contracts are set to expire this summer.

The England forward and the Spain keeper are among ten players who will see their deals expire at the end of June 2023 if they do not sign extensions.

However, the Old Trafford club have options to extend both their deals by another year if they choose to and reports on Sunday morning suggest they are currently considering doing just that for Rashford.

De Gea, on the other hand, might not see his contract extended with concern apparently growing over the club’s wage bill.

Here is what has been reported about both:

Man Utd ‘look to trigger’ Rashford extension but ‘waiver’ over De Gea

According to The Daily Star, Manchester United will look to trigger a 12-month extension on Marcus Rashford’s contract if they cannot agree a new deal with the England international.

The article references another report from The Mirror which says that United have been trying to tie the England international down on a new five year deal.

If they cannot agree terms this season then they could activate the extension in order to ‘buy time’ for further negotiations to avoid the 24-year old leaving on a free.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph claim that United are ‘weighing up’ whether to do the same with David De Gea’s contract after their wage bill reached a Premier League record high of £384 million last season.

The Red Devils have the same option to extend De Gea’s current deal by 12 months but are said to be ‘assesing their long term plan’ when it comes to the goalkeeping position at Old Trafford.

Back up stopper Dean Henderson is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest, and is contracted until 2025, but his previous comments suggest he would be unlikely to want to stay with United if he is not playing regularly.

Martin Dubravka’s loan deal from Newcastle United can be made permanent if United choose to take up an option to buy while they have also been linked with Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak in recent weeks.
