Ralf Rangnick could recall Edinson Cavani to his Manchester United squad for Sunday’s derby against Manchester City after the forward returned to training this week.
However, the Red Devils’ interim manager has confirmed there are ‘question marks’ over the availability of other players in his team.
“He [Cavani] is back in training since yesterday, today was his second training session with the team,” Rangnick said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.
“He looks good to be involved on Sunday, but there are still some question marks over other players. It looks good for Edinson for Sunday.”
With the importance of the game on Sunday, it is likely the German will select a significantly different starting XI at the Etihad Stadium to the one which began at Old Trafford last weekend.
United drew 0-0 with Watford on Saturday despite having significantly more shots and possession in the fixture.
It’s likely that there will be changes in midfield, especially with Scott McTominay potentially returning to the matchday squad after returning from illness.
But the middle of the pitch is not the only area where Rangnick has a decision to make. He’ll almost certainly make a change in defence with Diego Dalot an option at right-back - the Red Devils haven’t lost a league game under the German when the defender has started, while the 63-year-old may opt to rotate at left-back as well.
United’s front three could also be tweaked after Jadon Sancho was rested against Watford.
We’ve had a look at how we suspect Rangnick will line up at the Etihad Stadium against City…
