Manchester United are planning their summer rebuild and four exits have now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are planning to cut their squad ahead of next season as they look to put a forgettable Premier League campaign behind them.

Manchester World understands that United are heading into the summer window with the anticipation of no European football and that there is a small initial budget available to Ruben Amorim. Some high earners are set to leave but overall Amorim will reduce his squad as he plans out a brutal summer rebuild. The players out on loan such as Marcus Rashford and Antony are not set to have any future at the club despite improved form since their loan moves.

Some underperforming players will be sold while others are set to leave on free transfers due to their contract situation as the Red Devils look to free up their wage bill to finance a couple of new additions.

Fabrizio Romano confirms two planned Man Utd departures

In a fresh update on United’s summer plans, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said that Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans will both leave Old Trafford once their contracts expire this summer. He posted on X: “Tom Heaton and Jonny Evans are both set to leave Manchester United at the end of the season, plan confirmed.”

Both players could retire once the campaign comes to an end. Evans has already retired from international football as he ended his career with Northern Ireland last year after 107 caps for his country. Heaton is now 39 and has been back at Old Trafford as a back-up option since 2021. Evans is 37 and returned to the Red Devils in 2023 before being handed a new contract last summer.

He has not played for the club since the end of December due to a muscle injury. It is unclear if he will ever be fit enough to play for the club again. Evans spent nine years at the club between 2006 and 2015 before leaving for West Brom. He joined Leicester City in 2018 but left the Foxes in 2023 after they were relegated from the Premier League.

Man Utd confirmed exits now stands at four players

Evans and Heaton are not the only two players who will leave United this summer once their contracts are up, with Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof both approaching the end of their deals at the club. Last week, Fabrizio Romano reported on social media that Eriksen will leave the club. He said: “It’s definitely OVER for Christian Eriksen at Manchester United, he will LEAVE.”

Speaking last month, Eriksen addressed his future at the club as he said in an interview to Danish outlet TV2, he said: “I haven't heard anything, and when I don't, I assume that the collaboration stops. That's how I interpret it. Everyone knows that the contract expires, so I figure there's only one way [it goes].

“I haven't thought much about it. In my head I'm prepared to find something new. What that will be is not something I've decided yet. I don't have anything that I think I really want to try, so I'll see what comes and what suits me and the family.”

At the end of December, Romano reported via Give Me Sport that Lindelof would leave the club in 2025. He did moot a possible January exit but said the player would become a free agent and could seek his next move without the club being involved.

Lindelof also spoke about his future on international duty last month, and said: "I'm very comfortable in United. I've been there for a long time and it's the world's best league. I'll have to talk to everyone involved going forward."
