Man Utd player ratings & images vs Man City as Blues win the derby thanks to Haaland & Foden hat-tricks

This won’t make kind reading for Manchester United fans after their team were taken apart in the derby.

Manchester United were humiliated in Sunday’s Manchester derby, losing 6-3.

Most of the damage was done in the first half with Manchester City 4-0 up at half-time thanks to braces from Phil Foden and Erling Haaland.

The pair grabbed another after the break to make it a hat-trick apiece, while Antony and Anthony Martial (2) scored for United.

Within minutes of the game starting, City took control. Scott McTominay blocked goal-bound efforts by Haaland and Bernardo Silva in the early stages, either side of David de Gea’s save from Kevin De Bruyne.

A few minutes later and City netted the game’s opener as Silva’s low cross into the box was placed past De Gea by the onrushing Foden.

There was no let up from City after the goal, with Ilkay Gundogan hitting the post with Foden firing wide inside the box and Kevin De Bruyne forcing David de Gea to tip over from distance.

From the latter, De Bruyne swung in the resulting corner and Haaland rose highest in the box to plant home a header for his first derby goal, and give City a two-goal lead they so richly deserved.

Before long he had two, with De Bruyne again finding the striker, this time with a curled through ball to the back post which Haaland slid in and tapped into the back of the net.

Bruno Fernandes managed United’s first shot on target soon after, before City made it four before the break. This time Haaland turned provider as he swept a ball into the back post for Foden to slide in ahead of Tyrell Malacia and score.

After the break City remained on top, although United managed a goal against the run of play on 56 minutes when Antony curled one in from around 25 yards out.

But City were still bossing things and Haaland grabbed his third soon after. Sergio Gomez fizzed a pass into the box and Haaland ran onto the ball and placed it in the bottom corner.

Not to be outdone, Foden netted a hat-trick himself on 72 minutes. Again Haaland set up the England international as he slipped the ball behind the United back four, before Foden took a touch to compose himself and smash a strike into the back of the net.

It was 6-2 soon after as Martial followed up from an Ederson save to head in the rebound. United’s No.9 then won a spot-kick after being fouled in the box by Joao Cancelo, which the forward subsequently converted.
