Man Utd player ratings gallery - one scores 9/10 and four get 8/10 in 3-0 win over Leicester

Goals from Marcus Rashford (2) and Jadon Sancho handed Manchester United another win at Old Trafford.

Manchester United continued their recent impressive form with a 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday City, a result that moves them to within three points of second-place Manchester City.

After weathering an early spell of dominance from the Foxes, United were in total control for the last hour at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford netting a brace and Jadon Sancho coming off the bench to score in the second half.

But it was Leicester were well on top in the opening stages and created a plethora of chances, with David de Gea producing great saves to keep out Harvey Barnes’ shot and a Kelechi Iheanacho header. The Nigerian also saw a shot deflect wide off Victor Lindelof, while he and Tete both curled efforts just off target.

Yet for all Leicester’s dominance, on 25 minutes it was the hosts who took the lead, with their in-form man firing them ahead again. Bruno Fernandes played an excellent through ball into Rashford’s path, following a poor pass out of defence from Wout Faes, and United’s no.10 drilled a powerful strike beyond Danny Ward and into the back of the net. It was Rashford’s 23rd goal of the season, the most he’s ever netted in a single campaign.

The goal calmed some of the nerves inside Old Trafford, while Leicester’s control diminished, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s shot, which flashed wide, their only chance in the final 20 minutes of the first half. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot failed to get a touch to Fernandes’ cross into the back post before Luke Shaw ended the first period by curling a free-kick over.

United started quickly after the break, with Lisandro Martinez hitting the bar and Ward making saves to keep out Fernandes and Rashford inside the first five minutes of the half. Wout Weghorst then fired over from an awkward overhead kick before Rashford made it 2-0.

Fred played a well-placed pass behind the Leicester backline and Rashford fastened onto the ball before driving forward and placing it beyond Ward. The goal was originally flagged offside but a VAR check deemed the attacker to have been onside in the build-up.

And it was three soon after, when Sancho tapped the ball into the back of the net following a free-flowing United move that saw Rashford, Sancho and Fernandes combine rhythmically inside the opposition half. United were in total control at this stage, with Shaw testing Ward, Sancho having a good attempt blocked by Faes, while Weghorst and Martinez went close with headers.

The final United chance of note fell to Weghorst following a Sancho run, but the Dutchman hit his strike right at Ward, while De Gea kept out a James Maddison shot in a quiet end to the match. Here’s how we rated the United players…
