Two players were left out by Erik Ten Hag at Tottenham with their Manchester United departures expected before the end of the transfer window.

Erik Ten Hag says he needs players “who are totally with their heads in our team” after leaving Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams out of his Manchester United squad to face Tottenham.

The pair are among a host of players who have been expected to leave Old Trafford this summer but moves are yet to materialise.  Real Sociedad had been in talks over a move for van de Beek only for those to stall, while Williams has been linked with a move to Leeds.

Instead of naming either on the bench for the 2-0 defeat, Ten Hag selected two back-up goalkeepers - Dean Henderson and Radek Vitek.

Asked about their absence, and that of the injured Harry Maguire, post match, the United boss said: “Yesterday in final training, H (Maguire) was out with a small issue. So after September 1 everything can change, but we need players who are totally with their heads in our team.

“I won’t say the players you mention, they are not, but it’s also obvious that in this moment they are looking for something else. But when they are here they always do their best, every training (session).”

While Henderson was on the bench he is now attracting interest from Crystal Palace according to The Sun.  The ‘keeper was expected to join Nottingham Forest after a loan spell last season but Steve Cooper has turned to Arsenal’s Matt Turner who has started both of their Premier League games this season.

United have already rejigged their goalkeeping ranks with David de Gea departing at the end of his contract and Andre Onana arriving from Inter Milan.
