Man Utd owner wealth compared to Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea amid Glazers’ ‘sale’ statement - gallery

The Glazers have signalled that they could be willing to sell the Red Devils.

Manchester United owners, the Glazer Family, have indicated that they could be willing to sell the club as they seek ‘strategic alternatives’ for the future.

The Americans have been the majority stakeholders at Old Trafford since completing a £790 million deal back in 2005, but continue to prove unpopular among supporters, and have been the subject of widespread protest in recent times. As recently as August, a report from Bloomberg suggested that the Glazers would be willing to consider the sale of a minority share in the club.

But according to a statement made on Tuesday evening, Red Devils’ owners may be open to fully parting company with their long-term asset. An excerpt reads: “Manchester United plc (NYSE:MANU), one of the most successful and historic sports clubs in the world, announces today that the Company’s Board of Directors (the ‘Board’) is commencing a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club.

“The process is designed to enhance the club’s future growth, with the ultimate goal of positioning the club to capitalize on opportunities both on the pitch and commercially. As part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.”

A sale would, of course, open up the possibility of United being taken over by mega-wealthy new owners, but how does the Glazers’ personal fortune measure up compared to the rest of the league?
