The nominees have been announced for January’s Premier League Player of the Month, and features players from both Manchester United and Manchester City.

Unsurprisingly, Marcus Rashford’s name was listed among the nominees after a stellar run of form since the World Cup. The attacker, who scored on Wednesday as United beat Nottingham Forest 3-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, netted three in four league games in January, including the winner in the Manchester derby.

The attacker also got on the scoresheet against Bournemouth and Arsenal, with the 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace the only match he didn’t net in. In all competitions, Rashford has scored 10 in 10 since returning from the World Cup and earned praise from Roy Keane on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old has also already claimed a Player of the Month award this season, when he claimed September’s prize.

Elsewhere, Riyad Mahrez has been selected on the shortlist for January’s Player of the Month. The Algerian scored the winner against Chelsea in City’s first match of 2023 and netted two in a second-half comeback victory over Tottenham Hotspur last week. In fact, no player provided more goal contributions over January than the former Leicester City man, who was recently complimented by Pep Guardiola.

Rashford and Mahrez will face competition for January’s award Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Brennan Johnson (Nottingham Forest), Solly March (Brighton & Hove Albion), David Raya (Brentford) and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal). Fans can vote for Player of the Month here, with the vote remaining open to 12pm on Monday 30 January.
