Ross Barkley has reignited his career at Luton Town following a spell at Sir Jim Ratcliffe-owned Nice

Manchester United are considering a move for Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley this summer, according to reports.

Many had written off the England international before he joined the Hatters last August. Barkley arrived on a free transfer having spent a season at Nice, another club owned by United minority shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The 30-year-old enjoyed a solid - but not spectacular - season in France before returning to the Premier League. His last outing in England was at Aston Villa where he struggled to impress on a season-long loan.

Once billed as the most exciting Three Lions prospect of his generation, Barkley’s career fizzled out at Chelsea following initial stardom with Everton. Just 100 appearances in five seasons plummeted the midfielder’s stock before being allowed to leave for nothing two years ago.

But Luton have reaped the benefits after taking a punt on Barkley. Now entering the twilight of his career, the 33-capped international has rolled back the years to trigger talk about an England recall.

Hatters boss Rob Edwards has deployed Barkley in a deeper role, allowing him time to get on the ball and dictate the play. That is a role similar to how Christian Eriksen has played when called upon under Erik ten Hag.

A report from The Sun has now suggested Man United could pounce for the midfielder at the end of the season. Barkley only penned a one-year deal at Luton last summer - making him a potentially prudent signing as far as FFP/PSR is concerned.
