Manchester United are reportedly set to provide further competition for new signing Andre Onana by securing the signing of a second goalkeeper during the final month of the summer transfer window.

With speculation over Dean Henderson’s future at Old Trafford still ongoing, CNN Turkey have reported United have made an ‘official attempt’ to sign Fenerbahce and Turkey stopper Altay Bayindir.

The report has revealed Bayindir has a £5.1million release clause in his current contract with the Super Lig club and talks with the player’s agent are already said to be underway. The 25-year-old has made 143 appearances for Fenerbahce since he joined them in a cut-price move from MKE Ankaragucu during the summer of 2019.

After helping Fener win the Turkish Cup last season, the report states there is a chance Bayindir could follow highly-rated midfielder Arda Guler and defender Attila Szalai out of the club after they joined Real Madrid and Hoffenheim respectively.

Controversial claim made over new United signing

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Manchester United new boy Mason Mount would be ‘nowhere near’ getting into the matchday squad at his old club.

The 36-times capped England international became Erik ten Hag’s first summer signing when he moved to Old Trafford from Premier League rivals Chelsea last month. There are high hopes Mount can make a positive impact in the United side during the upcoming season after he put in some promising displays during the Red Devils pre-season schedule.

But Agbonlahor is not impressed and has suggested he would take Villa star John McGinn over Mount ‘all day, every day of the week’.

He told talkSPORT: “He doesn’t even make the bench, mate. He’s the last sub on the bench. Mason Mount is nowhere near making that team, nowhere near. Are you joking? (I’d have John McGinn over Mount) all day, every day of the week, I think everyone would. McGinn’s outstanding, outstanding player.”

Mount was in good company in being left out of Agbonlahor’s joint United-Villa side after the likes of Raphael Varane and Casemiro also failed to make the cut.
