Sean Jefferson, Manchester United’s director of partners, has announced he is leaving the club.

The senior employee was responsible for managing relationships with 25 global partners, and played a key role in an area which has become an invaluable revenue source for the United.

Jefferson posted on LinkedIn on Monday to announce the news.”Some personal news: after five amazing years, I have moved on from Manchester United,” he wrote.

“It was an absolute privilege to work at such a great club. Before I joined in June 2017, I knew it was the biggest and most high-profile club on the planet and a commercial powerhouse. It still is, and always will be. But the actual experience, on the inside, was phenomenal.

“It’s been an honour to work with so many great people across the club, a joy to collaborate (and renew with) so many wonderful partners, to build an innovative and measurably effective partnerships model and to see the awesome, award-winning partnerships team go from strength to strength – as they continue to do.

“But, the time was right for me to explore a new challenge and we agreed I can move on with the blessing and very positive support of the club, for which I will always be grateful. Wishing everyone @ManchesterUnited continued success.”

The news of Jefferson’s departure also comes as the club continue their search for a new primary kit sponsor. It was announced earlier this year that TeamViewer would prematurely end their front-of-shirt sponsorship, with the company’s name remaining on United jerseys until a new partner can be found. The agreement of a new deal with another company could also significantly help boost United’s transfer funds this summer.
