Manchester United are interested in signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, according to reports.

The Portugal international has enjoyed a superb debut season in the Premier League since signing from Sporting Lisbon last summer for a fee of around £17m. Palhinha has formed a solid midfield partnership with Harrison Reed that has guided Marco Silva’s men to eight in the top flight, following their promotion from the Championship.

Unsurprisingly, the 27-year-old’s impressive performances have drawn the attention of the division’s top sides, with the Sun claiming United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are also monitoring Palhinha. They add that the player is valued at more than £40m by Fulham, with Palhinha having at least four years left to run on his current deal.

Meanwhile, the Sun state Liverpool may instead opt to sign fellow Portuguese midfielders Matheus Nunes and Ruben Neves from Wolverhampton Wanderers, while Moises Caicedo is a target for the Merseyside club, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea.

ManchesterWorld understands United are keen on signing at least one midfielder this summer, potentially two depending on recruitment elsewhere and the ability to sell. Erik ten Hag is willing to allow Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek to depart this summer, although a long-term knee injury to the latter might rule out a departure at the end of the campaign.

Palhinha has only missed three league games this season for Fulham, all due to suspension, and he’s one of just two players in the Premier League to have already accumulated 10 bookings.
