Lisandro Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho have shared positive recovery updates amid Manchester United’s deepening injury crisis.

The Argentinian duo were two of 10 players who missed last weekend’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, along with Tom Heaton, Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Scott McTominay, Marcel Sabitzer, Donny van de Beek and Marcus Rashford.

It was confirmed on Friday that the foot injury Martinez sustained in the latter stages of United’s 2-2 draw with Sevilla would prevent him featuring in the final weeks of the campaign. “Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his foot,” the club said in a brief statement. “However, the Argentinian defender is expected to make a full recovery in time to be ready for the start of next season.”

In a social media post on Monday night, Martinez revealed the surgery on his broken foot was a success. “Everything went really well, thanks to God! Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery,” United’s no.6 wrote on social media.

That came a few hours after Garnacho uploaded a photo of himself wearing football boots once again, as he steps up his recovery. The winger has not played since 12 March when he picked up an ankle injury in the 0-0 Premier League draw against Southampton.

His post will be a huge boost for United fans, who will hope Garnacho is nearing a return to the side. The Red Devils face Sevilla on Thursday night in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final, and Erik ten Hag is likely to give an update on Garnacho during Wednesday’s pre-match press conference.

Asked about the player’s fitness and potential return date ahead of the Premier League clash with Everton on 8 April, Ten Hag said: "We have something in our heads, but I don’t want [to reveal it]. He will definitely be back before the end of the season. I think he will be in the final stages, but I don’t want to bring so much pressure on the medical and Garnacho to set a date when to be back.”
