Man Utd 'identify' short-term striker solution as sporting director responds to transfer links

All the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Manchester United as attention turns to FA Cup action.

Manchester United are now preparing for a trip to South Wales for this weekend's FA Cup clash with Newport County. Erik ten Hag's men were given last weekend off as part of the Premier League's winter break, and they will find out on Monday night whether they will drop a spot in the table during their time off.

The FA Cup is, realistically, the only source of silverware still available to United, so it's a competition they are likely to take seriously. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest news surrounding Old Trafford.

Choupo-Moting

United are said to be interested in a deal to land experienced Bayern Munich man Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. Seb Ecrivain has claimed that United have 'made contact' over a possible loan deal.

The Red Devils have struggled to get goals from summer signing Rasmus Hojlund so far, and they could add competiton in the form of 34-year-old Moating, and without breaking the bank or signing a long-term competitior for Hojlund, who is going to need regular opportunities. Although, the experienced forward has only scored three in 21 appearances so far this term, with many of those appearances coming from the bench.

Araujo a no-go

United have been linked with a move for Barcelona star Ronald Raujo over the last week or so, with Ten Hag said to be keen to strengthen his defence, but it seems the deal is a non-starter. That's because Barca chief Deco has ruled out selling the Uruguayan.

He said: “Bayern want Ronald Araujo? We are not considering selling him. He’s not for sale. He’s one of the key players for Barcelona’s future. We want him to be happy and this is shown on a day-to-day basis. There’s nothing to talk about.”
