Manchester United are close to signing highly rated youngster Harry Amass, 16, from Watford, ManchesterWorld understands.

The left-back, who has represented England at Under-16 level, is expected to join United at the end of the season with the Red Devils fighting off competition from Chelsea for his signature.

ManchesterWorld has been told the player will join United as they’re seen as a more stable club under the stewardship of Erik ten Hag, in comparison to the circus at Chelsea with Todd Boehly already sacking two managers this season.

The deal to sign Amass, while not signed yet, is expected to be completed and will strengthen United’s options in the youth team, while there’s a belief that he could be given chances to work with the first-team squad.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are United’s main senior left-backs, although Alex Telles is currently on loan at Sevilla and Brandon Williams is free to leave this summer.

Amass is a few years away from competing for a place in the first team, and current United youngsters Sam Murray and Alvaro Fernandez will offer his main competition in the youth set-up next season, with the latter playing 36 games on loan at Preston North End this term.

United continue to pride themselves on their outstanding record of developing youth-team players, with Tom Heaton, Axel Tuanzabe, Williams, Zidane Iqbal, Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, Hannibal, Anthony Elanga, Alejandro Garnahco and Marcus Rashford all players in Ten Hag’s current squad who have come through the underage United sides.
