Man Utd handed favourable FA Cup semi-final tie as they avoid Chelsea

Manchester United are just one game from Wembley after the draw was made for the FA Cup semi-final.

Manchester United have discovered their FA Cup semi final opponents after the draw was made live on BBC this morning.

Marc Skinner’s side will face Brighton and Hove Albion in their first ever FA Cup semi after being drawn against the Women’s Super League strugglers with the ties set to be played on Sunday 16 April. United progressed to the semi-final of the competition for the first time after goals from Alessia Russo, Vilde Boe Risa and Nikita Parris helped them ease past Women’s Championship Lewes on Sunday in the quarter finals as they took a 3-1 victory at The Dripping Pan and have been handed a favourable tie against managerless Brighton.

The draw means that United have avoided current holders and FA Cup favourites Chelsea, who face Aston Villa on the other side of the draw, and will see it as a real opportunity to progress to their first ever major final having beaten Brighton already this season with a 4-0 victory at Leigh Sports Village back in October.

Interestingly, the sides will also clash in the WSL a fortnight before they meet in the semi-final with the sides scheduled to face each other at the Brighton Community Stadium on Saturday 1 April (kick off 11:30am).

The Red Devils have been in impressive form throughout 22/23 season and are favourites for a top three league finish for the first time in the club’s history, however, the chance to lift the club’s first major trophy would be significant as the club aim to rise to the pinnacle of the women’s game.
