Manchester United have announced that 18-year-old goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel has committed herself to the club and put pen to paper on his first professional contract there.

Middleton-Patel has been with United since the age of just 15 and formed part of their successful Under-21 WSL Academy League and Cup winning side last season, before stepping up to the first team as back up to Mary Earps, Sophie Baggaley and Emily Ramsay.

The news of the ‘keeper’s new deal means she becomes the 10th academy graduate to sign for our women’s first team since the team reformed in 2018.

An obviously delighted Safia Middleton-Patel said she was “over the moon to sign professionally with Manchester United” and added “it’s a surreal moment for me and my family. I have to say a massive thank you to all the staff - everyone has been amazing with me throughout my journey to get here.”

And head coach Marc Skinner echoed these sentiments, adding: “Safia has made excellent steps for both club and country on her journey to this first professional contract – having been involved with both our United first team and the Welsh senior national side.

“We are delighted to see her sign professionally with us and look forward to seeing her progress over the coming years.”
