Southampton are said to be pushing hard to sign Manchester United winger Amad on loan in January, with Sunderland also keen.

The 21-year-old impressed on loan at Sunderland last season, scoring 14 Championship goals, while the Black Cats were one of several clubs keeping an eye on the player's situation over the summer. That was before Amad sustained a lengthy knee injury in pre-season, which caused him to miss the start of this campaign.

Southampton were just one of the sides credited with interest in Amad earlier in the year, while Football Insider have reported the Saints 'are pushing the hardest' to sign the player ahead of next month's transfer window.

Amad has been named in Ivory Coast’s preliminary squad for the upcoming African Cup of Nations tournament, which starts in January, yet it's still unclear if he will be involved.

What has Erik Ten Hag said about January?

Erik ten Hag has said he is happy with his Manchester United squad, hinting he has no plans to make major additions in the January transfer window.

“The current squad I am happy, as we get our players back, we have a good squad,” he responded. “A lot of the way it went in the first season, the reasons behind because many players were not available. I am sure when all players on board it looks different, Casemiro, [Lisandro] Martinez, [Mason] Mount, we will be much stronger after the window.”
