The 52-year-old will take the reins of Manchester United next season after signing a three-year deal with the club and will become their fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

Ten Hag has now sent a warning to opposition managers in the Premier League and hinted at what Red Devils fans can expect from his coaching style.

"We brought a certain culture in this club. A winner’s mentality,” he said to reporters after Ajax’s title win.

Former United goalkeeper and Ajax chief executive Edwin van der Sar thanked Ten Hag for his work at the Dutch side and wished him luck at Old Trafford.

“Erik.. sometimes I thought ‘you are a weird man’. But you surpassed all expectations,” Van Der Sar said.

“Dominant football, semi-final [of the] Champions League, league titles. You will leave for a club that is close to my heart. I wish you all the best there. Thank you, Erik ten Hag!"

Ten Hag took charge of Ajax in December 2017 and has won three league titles and two Dutch cups since.

United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick will remain at Old Trafford at the end of the campaign. The German is taking up a consultancy role with the Red Devils.

The pair will work together on player recruitment and try to rebuild an underperforming United squad.

However, the 63-year-old won’t have his full focus on the Red Devils with Rangnick recently being appointed the manager of Austria.
