Manchester United are being linked with the 'best defender in Serie A' ahead of the summer, with the Red Devils likely to strengthen at centre-back. It has been a frustrating season so far for United, who find themselves looking up at the European spots more than halfway through the season.

United have had issues aplenty across their squad, but they have certainly lacked depth at centre-back. Lisandro Martinez's injury troubles during the first half of the season did not help, but United found themselves relying on senior squad member Jonny Evans, who was brought in as a squad player who could cover.

Harry Maguire's resurgence has helped Erik ten Hag's case, but there is no getting around the fact United need a centre-back signing in the near future. A permanent centre-back signing in January is off the table, with the Red Devils unable to spend significantly due to Financial Fair Play.

And that means a significant defender signing is likely to arrive in the summer, and the latest reports claim Juventus defender Gleison Bremer could be an option. Gianluca Di Marzio told the Sky Sports’ International Transfer Show that United are interested in the centre-back, who only signed for Juve in the summer.

Bremen is already impressing for the Old Lady, and it seems unlikely they would allow him to leave unless they could make a huge profit. Still, United fans will be getting excited about a possible deal, and especially after Juve legend Sergio Brio recently dubbed Bremer the 'best defender in Serie A' after recent performances.

“Juve’s strong point is definitely the defense. They concede few goals and are showing great solidity," he told TuttoSport. “I really like Bremer. He’s an exceptional player with great timing and positioning on the pitch. The Brazilian is the best defender in Serie A today. I’m certain of it.”
