Man Utd eye audacious 'double transfer' raid with £42m-rated Crystal Palace star emerging on radar

Manchester United have the chance to boost their ranks in the summer

Manchester United picked Ruben Amorim as their manager earlier this winter. He was chosen as their replacement for Erik ten Hag.

Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye in Portugal at Sporting Lisbon. It has been a tough start for him at Old Trafford though with ups and downs.

Amorim will be hoping for some more consistency over the coming months. United are looking to rise up the Premier League table.

Manchester United eye Jean-Philippe Mateta and Wesley

United are eyeing a ‘double deal’ for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and Flamengo star Wesley, as per TEAMtalk. The Red Devils have the chance to bring in some new players in the summer ahead of next season with the January window now shut.

Mateta, 27, has enjoyed a new lease of life at Selhurst Park over recent times and the Eagles could face a battle to keep hold of him down the amid expected attention from elsewhere. He has scored 39 goals in 118 games for the South London club to date, 13 of which have come in this campaign.

The Frenchman joined Crystal Palace back in 2020 on an initial loan deal that was later made permanent. Prior to linking up with the Eagles, he played in Germany for Mainz 05 and found the net on 27 occasions in 71 outings.

As for Wesley, the 21-year-old may have been identified by United as a more long-term option. He is being tipped for a bright future in the game.

He signed for Flamengo in 2021 and might see a transfer to Europe happening for himself soon. The right-back broke into their first-team in the Brazilian top flight back in 2022 and has since enjoyed plenty of game time over recent seasons.

If the Red Devils landed him, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. As with any player coming in from abroad, patience would need to be required as he settles in and adapts to life in a new country and culture.

What now for Manchester United?

United were beaten 2-0 at home by Crystal Palace in their last league outing. It was a disappointing showing by the Red Devils and they need to improve.

They are back in action with an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur next weekend. Speaking after their defeat to the Eagles, Amorim said: "During the game, I felt that the team did some things well. We suffered two goals that we can avoid, which is really disappointing. We take some things from the performance, but not the result.

"It is a hard season at this moment. The players are trying different things to improve. We need to move forward. We had more possession, more connections, created chances but we couldn't score and that was the difference today."

"I didn't feel that (pressure) but it is difficult to play here because we want to please our fans. This season is going to be like that, I said it since the first day."
