Manchester United are keen to land one of Serie A’s most clinical attackers on Deadline Day

Manchester United are believed to have reached out to Italian heavyweights Juventus as they look to secure a late deadline day swoop for striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Ruben Amorim’s side are in desperate need of a centre forward before the end of the transfer window as they look to reinvigorate their season after a lacklustre start. United are believed to be huge admirers of Serbian international Vlahovic and are keen to capitalise on the forward’s uncertain future in Turin.

The Red Devils were initially interested in bringing in Bayern Munich youngster Mathys Tels earlier in the window, but it now looks increasingly likely that the French teenager will instead join Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur on loan in a dramatic transfer U-turn.

ESPN reporter Julien Laurens explained that Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou played a key part in getting the deal over the line ahead of competitors such as United, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

Laurens explained on X: “Ange Postecoglou spoke with Mathys Tel at length earlier today and convinced him to come to Tottenham. Huge role played by the Spurs manager to get one of the most coveted youngsters in Europe!”

Why Man Utd have made the move for Dusan Vlahovic

Manchester United are in the market to sign a proven goalscorer that can propel the team up the table and back into European contention after a series of lacklustre performances and results.

Striker duo Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have scored just five league goals between them this season and both were dropped from the line-up during United’s most recent league defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are also keen to replace the goalscoring output of winger Marcus Rashford, who after a month long standoff with Ruben Amorim, completed a shock loan move to Aston Villa, which includes an option to buy for around £40m.

TBR Football understands that United have identified Dusan Vlahovic as the perfect player to fill the void in attack due to his proven track record over the past five years in Serie A. Overall, the 25-year-old has scored 124 goals over 248 appearances as a professional footballer, giving him an average return of one goal every two games. He has scored 85 of those goals in Serie A and has twice been included in the league’s Team of the Year due to his consistency in front of goal.

Vlahovic is an imposing presence, renowned for his incredible aerial ability, position sense, movement in front of goal and his exceptional finishing skills. His playing style has often led to comparisons to former Old Trafford fan favourite Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Could Dusan Vlahovic leave Juventus on deadline day?

TBR Football adds that Dusan Vlahovic is facing an increasingly uncertain future at Juventus after prolonged discussions over a new contract. The club are said to have prepared for his “impending exit” after signing of Randal Kolo Muani from PSG.

The outlet claims that the Serbian is unwilling to accept a pay decrease which is being proposed by the Serie A heavyweights. Talks over a new deal have been dragged out for over 12 months and it appears increasingly likely that the player will be made available at some stage in 2025.

United are understood to be one of the main frontrunners to try and get a deal done, but further reports from TBR claim Arsenal are also extremely interested after Gabriel Jesus’ long-term injury.

The Gunners had their hearts set on a move for the former Fiorentina striker back in January 2023 before he ultimately opted to join Juventus for £67m. Meanwhile, Aston Villa following the sale of Jhon Duran, have also made enquiries about Vlahovic’s situation in Turin.
