Manchester United were beaten heavily away at Brentford on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag’s side found themselves 4-0 down at half-time after goals from Josh DaSilva, Mathias Jensen, Ben Mee and Bryan Mbuemo and the score stayed that way after 90 minutes.

The Red Devils have now lost their opening two games of the season as they prepare to face Liverpool next.

Here is the latest news and rumours coming out of the club today....

Defender poised to leave

Ethan Laird is reportedly close to joining QPR on loan.

The right-back has spent recent times out on loan in the Football League at MK Dons, Swansea City and Bournemouth to gain experience.

West London Sport report he will officially link up with the Hoops on Monday after seeing a switch to fellow Championship side Watford fall through.

Striker open to move

Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi is said to be interested in a move to United.

The Argentina international has been with the Ligue 1 giants since 2019 and has scored 38 goals in 92 games, having previously played for Sampdoria and Inter Milan.

TYC Sport report that he is ‘open’ to a switch to Old Trafford in this transfer window.

Brentford targeted defender

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has admitted that his side targeted Lisandro Martinez yesterday.

The defender has made the move to England from Ajax this summer but his height of 5ft 9in has raised questions as to whether he is suited to the Premier League.

Frank told Sky Sports: “We knew we’d more likely either win it or the second ball around it. Of course we looked at what Brighton did well against them, and Brighton are also like us in the way they want to play.

“Normally Brighton always build from the goalkeeper, but they went long every single time so of course we looked at that. We knew we had that weapon so that’s why we did it.”
