Sunday’s clash with Brighton will be the first real look at the new system, but United’s squad is unlikely to be complete as they continue to look for new signings.

Here we take a look at the latest transfer news and rumours concerning the Red Devils.

De Jong problem

Chelsea are said to be planning to hijack United’s bid to land Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong.

The Red Devils have been chasing De Jong all summer, but the Dutchman has been reluctant to make the move.

According to Sport, Chelsea are now planning to make a move of their own, hoping they can convince the midfielder, who would seemingly prefer to join a club with a clearer sporting direction.

Bailly interest

AS Roma are said to be keen on landing United defender Eric Bailly this summer.

Bailly could see his play time reduced amid the signing of Lisandro Martinez, and according to The Athletic, Jose Mourinho wants to pull off a move.

The report follows further reports that AC Milan want Bailly, and United could well allow a deal to go ahead given they now have more options at centre-back.

Pavard opportunity

United are said to have been offered the chance to sign Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard.

According to Sport1, Pavard faces an uncertain future at Bayern and recently admitted he doesn’t know where his future lies.

The report claims the defender has been offered to United and at the price of around £30million.
