The latest update on Manchester United’s pursuit of a key summer transfer target.

After elbowing Liverpool out of the way to become front-runners to sign Mason Mount, Manchester United are now facing competition from another Champions League club to sign the player. The midfielder has attracted a lot of attention this window as his departure from Chelsea looks imminent, but the Red Devils seem to be faltering in the race for his signature.

United have tabled three offers for Mount already, and all have been rejected. Bayern Munich are now said to be stepping up their interest in the England international. That’s according to The Guardian, who report that the Blues refused to accept United’s latest bid of £50 million, but their valuation of £65 million has been viewed as too high by Erik ten Hag and his team.

This could likely spell the end of the interest from the Manchester outfit, who earned a strong third-place finish last season and will be hoping they can push on after the transfer window and edge up there as title challengers.

Mount has just one year left on his current contract and attempts of agreeing terms fell flat, but Chelsea are standing firm on their asking price. Now, United are weighing up their options and are considering walking away completely from their pursuit of Mount. The Old Trafford outfit have also been exploring other midfield options, with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Moisés Caicedo one of their main targets.

Doors are now open for other clubs to edge their way in and land a deal for Mount, and Bayern Munich are up there as potential suitors. While it remains to be seen whether Mount would be open to leaving England, the report claims that Chelsea could possibly accept a fee lower than their £65 million target from a foreign club.

Bayern are certainly on the look out to revamp their squad and had initially shown interest in Kai Havertz, but the Germany international has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal instead.
