Manchester United return to action tonight when they test their sharpness in the Carabao Cup. The Red Devils have been on the sidelines for more than a month due to the World Cup, but they get back to it in the Carabao Cup, taking on Championship leaders Burnley in what should be an interesting test at Old Trafford.

It should also prove a useful one for Erik ten Hag and his men as they prepare for the Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest on December 27. In the meantime, we have rounded up all the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding Old Trafford.

United are being tipped to make a move for Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann. The Frenchman enjoyed a superb World Cup despite missing out on the ultimate prize, and according to Fichajes, United are now preparing a £52.5million bid ahead of the January transfer window.

Griezmann only joined Atleti permanently earlier this year, and the Madrid club may be tempted based on their less than ideal financial situation. However, more than £50million is a lot to fork out for a 31-year-old player, and one they are likely to lose money on in the long-term.

Thuram latest

United continue to be linked with a move for another France World Cup star in Marcus Thuram. According to Sport Bild, Borussia Monchengladbach will only command £9.6million for the forward’s services in the January transfer window due to the 25-year-old’s contract being up at the end of the season.

It’s reported United see Thuram as an ‘ideal’ replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left a void in Ten Hag’s attack. The price could make this one an almost risk-free transfer for United, which makes this an attractive deal, especially after the large amount of money spent during the summer.
