Manchester United have completed their second signing of the summer with the transfer of Barcelona striker Geyse, the club have confirmed.

Linked to the club throughout the summer, the 24-year-old moves from the Spanish giants to the Women's Super League after winning both Liga F and the UEFA Women's Champions League with Barcelona last year.

“I am very happy to be here. Signing for United has been a very special day for me and my family. I am very grateful for this opportunity and thank everyone for making it happen" said the striker.

“Geyse is a proven winner on the biggest stages. She has won both domestic and international honours and her winning mentality is an important addition to our team, ahead of a busy campaign across several important competitions.

"We are delighted to welcome Geyse into our Manchester United family and cannot wait to see her excite our wonderful fans" added Manchester United boss Marc Skinner.

First broke by Kathryn Batte of the MailOnline, the European champions were understood to be reluctant to sanction a deal for the striker and rejected two bids from the club but United found a breakthrough in negotiations recently after an improved offer - believed to be a club record - saw Barca's management 'assess' the deal.

Believed to be the club's number one choice as a replacement for the outgoing Alessia Russo, Geyse featured for Brazil in this summer's World Cup, playing all three of her countries games alongside another United transfer target, Kerolin.

The Brazil star was pictured at Old Trafford on Monday and was given a tour of the ground ahead of the men's first team game against Wolverhampton Wanderers before agreeing to a deal with the club.

Geyse becomes United's second signing of the summer following the free transfer of Gemma Evans from Reading, however, it is understood Scotland international Emma Watson is currently training with the club ahead of a move after her departure from Scottish Women's Premier League outfit Rangers.
