Erik ten Hag's future at Manchester United remains a talking point not just with the Old Trafford faithful but across world football.

Tuesday's Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich was the latest disappointing result under the Dutchman's tenure and reports are rampant across media outlets about the potential for the Red Devils to seek an alternative for the dugout. One such report comes from The Express, who claim that ten Hag may already have another role lined up if he is given the boot.

The article references rumours in Germany that the 53-year old could be lined up as the next head coach at Borussia Dortmund. Matthias Sammer, who works for the Bundesliga outfit as an adviser, previously worked with Ten Hag at Bayern Munich in 2013 before leaving for Utrecht two years later. Dortmund's current head coach, Edin Terzic, only signed a permanent deal to become manager last summer but the club currently find themselves 11 points off the top of the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, one name who has been linked with the Manchester United head coach role multiple times over the past ten years is Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone. If the Red Devils are soon to be in the market for a new gaffer, will the Argentinian once again be amongst the names on many supporters lips?

Per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Simeone appears to have distanced himself from leaving Atletico anytime soon. He said: "How can I stay here for many years and still enjoy? I wanna be honest. I feel very well here in Madrid and the club can still improve, I'm sure It’s challenging to help Atléti growing in Europe every year. That’s my goal. Improve all together."

Simeone is far from the only name to have been mentioned in the rumour mill not just in the past few weeks but over recent years when the Old Trafford vacancy has come up. Other names currently being touted include former Chelsea boss Graham Potter and ex Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane.
