Manchester United have reportedly already put an offer on the table for a Man City target

Manchester United’s need for attacking reinforcements this summer is clear and Ruben Amorim is hoping to add a new striker and a player who can play in behind a centre forward ahead of next season.

The majority of the Red Devils forwards have been inconsistent this campaign, with United scoring just 37 times in their 31 Premier League outings so far. Summer business will depend on what players the club can sell. A number of players are already poised to leave permanently at the end of the season, with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho some of the squad members set to generate funds by their respective departures this summer.

Now the Red Devils are being linked with a Premier League forward who could provide goals, assists and versatility to Amorim.

Man United ‘launch bid’ for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, United have already ‘launched a £69.5m offer’ ahead of the summer for Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers. The 22-year-old will not be allowed to leave Villa easily, however, as he is said to be a key part of the club’s plans moving forward.

Rogers has a contract at Villa until the summer of 2030, meaning the Birmingham outfit are in a strong position to keep him on board. He has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 31 Premier League appearances and would undoubtedly strengthen United’s attack as he can play on the left and right wing as well as a number of positions through the middle.

However, United’s potential pursuit of Rogers could be derailed by rivals Manchester City. A report from TEAMtalk last week claimed that City are keen to sign Rogers as Pep Guardiola loves the player. Rogers was previously in City’s academy but left the club in 2023 after being sold to Championship side Middlesbrough.

What has Unai Emery said about Morgan Rogers?

Speaking just last month, Villa boss Unai Emery hailed Rogers for his versatility and highlighted how the attribute was such a key factor in the modern game. He said: “With how football is changing, I appreciate a lot the players being versatile, playing different positions, understanding everything tactically. One of them in our squad is clearly Morgan Rogers.

“This versatility and performing like we are always needing is really very important. Sometimes I’m pushing other players to be versatile or to adapt. Being versatile in case we will need it. Not every player is ready to do it, but Morgan Rogers is always positive and his versatility is very important for us. In the last match, we played in different positions with Morgan.

“He played striker, number ten, right side, left side, and he’s always performing very well because he’s a player who understands tactically everything we are planning and he has the qualities to do it. The importance he has now is trying to improve. I’m always pushing him to get more of him, but physically as well he’s keeping the level we needed until today. Hopefully tomorrow he can be ready to play 90 minutes, performing like he is doing.”
