Erik ten Hag saw his side come from 2-0 down to win a remarkable game 3-2 on Boxing Day.

Manchester United match-winner Rasmus Hojlund admitted he would have been driven crazy had he listened to any of the noise around his wait for a first Premier League goal.

The Dane capped a remarkable turnaround at Old Trafford on Boxing Day as the hosts came from 2-0 to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and give Erik ten Hag some much-needed Christmas cheer.

A sharp left-footed finish was the £72million striker’s first in league action having seen all his goals thus far come in United’s humbling Champions League exit. Hojlund however knocked back suggestions that opening his account in the Premier League was a real weight off his shoulders.

“Not at all,” he said. “I just try to focus on my game and try to put myself in front of the goal all the time. Of course, there is a relief to score my first Premier League goal, but it isn't like I haven't scored goals; I've scored five in the Champions League. So, I was very happy and you can see the relief in my celebration.

"I try not to focus too much about the media. If I did that, I would get crazy in my head. I just try to focus on my game and try to be better at the training pitch every day. The hard work pays off.”

Despite United’s struggles in front of goal at times this season, Hojlund is relaxed about who plays around him in what has largely been a front three.  Marcus Rashford was back in the side against Villa having struggled for form this season while Alejandro Garnacho scored twice to set up Hojlund’s big moment at Old Trafford eight minutes from time.

“I want to say I don't care who I am playing with,” he said. “I think we all play for Manchester United, so we all have our own different qualities. Whether I am playing with Antony, Garnacho, Rashy, whoever is playing on the wings or in the No. 10 position, we have to find each other and create. I love to play with all of them. I am just a lucky man.”
