Manchester United are in Champions League action on Tuesday night at home to Galatasaray. The Red Devils will be looking to bounce back from their loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League last time out. Erik ten Hag’s side were beaten 1-0 by the Eagles. Defender situation

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is said to be on United’s and Manchester City’s ‘radar’ ahead of the January transfer window with Harry Maguire’s future up in the air, according to a report by the Daily Mail. The 21-year-old, who is an England youth international, has enjoyed plenty of game time for the Toffees so far this season and has caught the eye playing under Sean Dyche.

The Cumbrian born centre-back started his career at local side Carlisle United and broke into their first-team as a youngster before going on to make 14 appearances as a teenager before moving to Goodison Park. He spent last term on loan at PSV in the Eredivisie to get some experience under his belt and was a hit during his time in Holland, winning the KNVB Cup in the process.

New appointment

United have appointed Mick Matthews as their new Academy Coach Development Manager. He is leaving the FA after 26 years to join the North West outfit for a new challenge, as per the Training Ground Guru, and holds an UEFA Pro Licence, an MSC in Coach Development and has tutored the UEFA A Licence in the past as well so arrives with some impressive pedigree.

He played for the likes of Hull City and Wolves during his playing days. The 62-year-old then hung up his boots and has since delved into the coaching world.
