Man Utd 3-1 Crystal Palace: Player ratings as United impress again in pre-season

Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were on target for Manchester United in Melbourne.

Manchester United continued their excellent form in pre-season with a convincing 3-1 win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

It means the Red Devils have won all three friendlies so far this summer, with Erik ten Hag’s side putting in another showing that was full of dynamism, fluidity and saw United commit plenty of players in offensive areas.

It was Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho who grabbed the goals in Melbourne, although the Red Devils ended the game with 10 men.

Martial made a lively start to proceedings and fired over early on, before drawing a smart save from Jack Butland on 10 minutes.

Soon after, the Frenchman netted the opening goal of the match, when he controlled Diogo Dalot’s cross and slotted it into the back of the net, although there was more than a hint of offside in the build-up.

But it wasn’t one way traffic at the MCG, with David de Gea forced into action to deny Jean-Philippe Mateta and then Malcolm Ebiowei, with the latter proving to be an excellent stop at his near post.

United finished the half on top, with Marcus Rashford and then Harry Maguire firing wide.

After the break, the Red Devils were still in the ascendancy and found a second goal within a few minutes of the restart.

It was Rashford who finished off an intricate move and tapped in Donny van de Beek’s pass at the back post.

Just before the hour mark, United made it 3-0 when Jadon Sancho was slipped in behind the Palace defence via a Martial through ball. The former Borussia Dortmund man advanced on goal and then casually placed it into the back of the net.

United made eight substitutions on the 65th minute, which impacted their rhythm, and gave Palace more of a foothold in the game.

Joel Ward pulled one back for the Eagles in the 74th minute, moments after Ademola Ola-Adebomi had drawn a save from De Gea. But the Spaniard failed to keep out Ward’s effort, and will be disappointed with himself as the ball squirmed under his body.

In the latter stages Will Fish was shown a straight red for United for a professional foul. The young defender hauled back Victor Akinwale as he looked to set for a one-on-one chance with De Gea, and Fish was rightly dismissed.

Here’s how we rated the United players...
