Man United 'very interested' in signing Euro 2024 champion and willing to table a 'considerable sum'
Manchester United are already considering their transfer options for 2025.
Manchester United enjoyed a busy summer transfer window, bringing in a number of key new players and cashing in on some excess personnel as well. The Red Devils are pushing to improve on last season’s Premier League form, which was an overall disappointing outcome.

United recorded their worst ever finish to a Premier League season, ending up in eighth place with 60 points on the board, behind the likes of Newcastle United and Chelsea. Erik ten Hag’s side have recruited in a number of areas, adding the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee to the ranks to bolster both their attack and defence.
The only position United did not add to was in between the sticks but a new report has emerged, linking the Reds to an exciting goalkeeper target for next year.
According to Fichajes (via Sports Mole), United are ‘very interested’ in signing Unai Simón from Athletic Bilbao. The 27-year-old played a crucial part in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph and after his impressive performances, the Red Devils are among those interested in his services and they are willing to pay a ‘considerable sum’ to bring him to Manchester.
Simón is currently the first choice for both his club and country, so United will have a task on their hands if they are serious about trying to coax him away from Athletic. The shot-stopper is under contract until 2029 but he has been backed to earn a ‘big-money’ move to another club next year.
A transfer fee has not been mentioned but Transfermarkt currently value Simón at €30 million (£25m). André Onana is currently Ten Hag’s first choice between the sticks but he has come under some criticism recently. United have just three points on the board from their opening three fixtures and they will enter this weekend’s meeting with Southampton off the back of a 3-0 defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The manager’s future is also being discussed once again following United’s disappointing start to the season and a potential sacking could see changes made under a new head coach.
Simón is highly regarded and a big move could well be on the cards but it’s highly unlikely he will join a club where he is not guaranteed to be the first choice. United would surely have to demote or sell Onana in order to make a move for the European champion work.
