Manchester United know they must produce a brilliant performance if they are to defeat Liverpool this weekend and keep their faint hopes of Champions League qualification alive.
Erik ten Hag's side are back in action when they host their fierce rivals at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon and will need a huge improvement from their recent performances against Brentford and Chelsea.
United actually played some of their best attacking football of the season at Stamford Bridge in midweek but improbably had nothing to show for it after a chaotic ending to the match that saw them concede twice in the dying moments of stoppage time.
Ten Hag will be demanding a response from his side this weekend but they might have to do it without a number of key players after Raphael Varane and Jonny Evans both limped out of the Chelsea loss.
It means United could have just two fit centre-backs to face Liverpool, with academy graduate Willy Kambwala in line for a start unless there is some positive injury news ahead of the clash.
