Man United must target clinical 151-goal star over Viktor Gyokeres this summer - opinion

Manchester United have already added in attack this summer, by signing Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, however, they also want to add an out-and-out number nine to replace Rasmus Hojlund.
Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has been one of United’s main targets this summer so far, as he could reunite with Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford following a spell with unbelievable goal-scoring numbers at the Portuguese club.

Hide AdUnited have reportedly made an approach to sign the Sweden international, he has an £84m release clause in his contract at Sporting, and has also been heavily linked to Arsenal too. However, the Gunners are seemingly prioritising a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
United should sign Osimhen instead of Gyokeres
Gyokeres has scored 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting this past season, showing himself to be one of the most prolific strikers in Europe. However, he has yet to consistently play in one of Europe’s top five leagues, despite playing in England previously. He had a four-year spell contract to Brighton but never played in the top flight.
The Swedish international spent time at Coventry City before he moved to Portugal, but that was in the Championship, and there are concerns over whether he could be a flop in the Premier League if he joined United or Arsenal.
The Red Devils have also been linked to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who spent last season on loan at Turkish side Galatasaray. But the big difference is that the Nigerian has proven that he can deliver in a top European division. According to the Daily Mail, the striker recently turned down a £25.3m a year deal at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, leaving the door open for Manchester United.

Hide AdOsimhen has a £63m release clause too, making him a cheaper alternative to Gyokeres when comparing release clauses. He has experience playing in Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and Serie A and is a clinical goal-scorer. This past season, Osimhen scored 37 goals in 41 games, scoring 0.9 goals per game in the Turkish Super Lig.
Gyokeres’ numbers are slightly better at 1.04 goals per game, but seeing as Osimhen has more proven experience, and could be cheaper, he may be the much better signing rather than Gyokeres.
United could swap Osimhen with Garnacho
Galatasaray are said to be keen on signing Osimhen permanently, but it is unclear whether the Turkish side will be able to afford the 26-year-old this summer, so United could swoop in for him.
With that in mind, United winger Alejandro Garnacho has been a reported target of Napoli’s for several months now, and United want to sell the 20-year-old Argentinian international.

Hide AdThe Red Devils could then decide to approach Napoli and offer Garnacho to the Italian side in a swap deal for Osimhen, which would leave both clubs having sold a player that they want to offload, and bring in a summer transfer target.
If this were the case, United would get a physical, fast and clinical striker who has a superb goal-scoring record across his career...in the top leagues in Europe. In his career, Osimhen has netted 151 goals. He also has 26 goals for the Nigerian national team, making him the second-highest scorer in his country’s history.
