It remains to be seen what the future holds for Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
The Dutchman is expected to remain in his current role until at the least the end of the season, though there remains ongoing speculation surrounding his long-term position at Old Trafford. The Ineos Group are targeting 'the best in class' across all departments and acknowledge that their sporting structure would be undermined if they didn't have the right manager in place.
Omar Berrada is understood to be calling the shots on what happens next for Ten Hag, though United could wait until Dan Ashworth is at the club before they actually act upon any changes.
It is an exciting time for United supporters and we have taken a look at ten potential candidates to takeover at Old Trafford, should a managerial vacancy arise...
1. Gareth Southgate
Southgate is admired by Ineos but his involvement with England at the European Championship could complicate matters. There are also doubts about his suitability to the daily tasks of club management after so long on the international scene. Photo: AFP via Getty Images
2. Roberto De Zerbi
Brighton have underwhelmed somewhat this season but De Zerbi remains one of the most highly-rated young coaches in the game. It would be fascinating to see what he could do at a club of United's scale but it would certainly be a huge step up. Photo: Getty Images
3. Graham Potter
United fans might roll their eyes at the prospect of appointing the former Chelsea manager but many feel he was destined to fail at Stamford Bridge due to their sporting structure. Though by that logic, the same can be said of Ten Hag at Old Trafford. Photo: Liverpool FC via Getty Images
4. Ange Postecoglou
This one seems highly unlikely. Tottenham are fierce negotiators at the best of times and would hate the thought of their manager being poached by a domestic rival. His success in North London could pave the way for a more experimental appointment though. Photo: Getty Images
